2009/10 Artsmark Award
St Julian's is delighted to announce that we have been awarded the National 'Silver Artsmark' in recognition of our commitment to the arts and the outstanding creative opportunities we offer our pupils. A huge thank you goes to our committed staff and governors for all their hard work in achieving this prestigious award. Class 4 Residential - please visit Class 4's webpage for photos
Monday 17th May...Class 4 arrived safe and sound just after lunch today. This afternoon they have been doing team building activities and will be going on a night walk later. The sun is shining, and we look forward to hearing all about their adventures. Keep checking back for photos...!
Tuesday 18th May...Mrs Mapstone said 'they slept well last night'...we are not sure if she means the children or the adults! Everyone enjoyed a very exciting session of Gorge Scrambling and then some cycling in the afternoon. All are very happy and well. We look forward to hearing more news tomorrow...
Wednesday 19th May..."awesome archery"..."ace cycling"...and "cool climbing" are some of the descriptions the pupils from Class 4 have sent back from the residential. Mrs Gascoigne arrived this afternoon...unfortunately, it was just a little too late to participate in the raft building.
Thursday 20th May...Mrs Mapstone is now back in school. Looking rather tired, she told us: "all the children are having such an enjoyable time, and really making the most of the opportunities that the residential provides". Kayaking and high ropes have been on today's menu.
Friday 21st May...everyone has arrived home, safe and well. Lots of very tired children (and adults!) but excited to tell about their experiences. We look forward to hearing all about the week's adventures, and hope to have some photos for you all very soon. Thank you to everyone who made the residential trip possible. We are very grateful. Cash for Schools
FANTASTIC NEWS!
We are very pleased to report that we have won the top prize of £4000 in the 'Cash for Schools' competition run by Barclays Bank and the Bath Chronicle.
Thank you to everyone who collected tokens. We are going to carry out an exciting gardening project in the school grounds. Watch this space...!
St Julian’s is proud to be recognised as a ‘Healthy Schools Plus’ school which means we are continuing to work towards developing the health and well being of all of our school community. We will especially be focusing on key areas in the coming months to improve the food and dining experiences of our children; we will be growing more produce and joining the ‘Food for Life Partnership’. We aim to increase the amount of cookery and physical exercise we are doing and will be continuing the excellent nurture group work in which we have been engaged. Look out for these exciting new developments, or better still ask your children about them.

Joue sur Erdre visit
On Monday 22nd March, St Julian's hosted a school from Joue sur Erdre, near Nantes, France, for the afternoon. Somewhere in their busy schedule, we managed to fit a guided walk around Wellow, parachute games with Classes 3 and 4, and lunchtime with the whole school. It was a super opportunity for children and adults from both schools to try out their French/ English conversation skills, and we look forward to building a relationship with the teachers and children from the school.

Plenty of children were eager to come to school early on Thursday 11th March, for the first Breakfast Club. They were served a delicious selection of cereals, eggs on toast, breads, jams and juice.

Marie Curie Cancer Care
St Julian's showed their support for Marie Curie Cancer Care, by wearing yellow to school on Friday 26th February and growing daffodils. We were joined by a Marie Curie nurse, who spoke to the school about the charity's work.

Book Week
This year, we used our whole school topic of George and the Dragon as the theme for our Book Week. We spent a day dressed as characters, listened to a book at bed time and created our own 'Dragonology' book.

ICT MARK
We at St Julian's are pleased to announce that we have reached the threshold for the ICT mark!
Here's what they said about the provision for ICT at St Julian's:
Good quality resources, well timetabled. Children have regular/ sustained access to resources and they have access to resources when they need them.
Children demonstrated independence in managing their resources, choosing when to access or how to choose the most appropriate tools.
All staff feel very supported by the leadership and the subject leader. All say their professional development needs are met.
A main strength is the enthusiasm, and clear vision of the leadership and the commitment and vision of the subject leader. There have been huge developments in the last three years. ICT is firmly embedded into all aspects of the work of the school.
