Last week, Sycamore class enjoyed a trip to Downside School for an Art & DT day. The Art activity involved the children working with clay. They took inspiration from the artist William de Morgan when planning the patterns and textures they would use to create either a bird or a sea creature. They then cut out their shape and used the ‘slip and score’ technique to join the piece to a tile.

In the DT workshop, the children created their own game – The Tower of Downside – which was a twist on a challenge many of the children had completed with tyres on previous activity days. The children saw the laser cutter in action which had been used to cut out their wooden pieces. They then had to sand, drill, join and stain the pieces to create the finished product. The children were delighted to be able to take their completed games home to enjoy with family and friends!
