Please find below an overview of our learning for the 2026/27 academic year:
Beech’s Curriculum Overview for 26/27
This term we will be learning:
In English… COMING SOON!
In Maths… COMING SOON!
In the Wider Curriculum… COMING SOON!
PE lessons will be on ??? and ???. Please send your child to school wearing their PE kit.
- Children need to have in school every day a spare pair of shoes or wellies for our Adventure Play and Paddock area.
- It is important that children always have a coat in school as we will be outside as much as possible in all weathers.
Weekly Home Learning Tasks
Your child’s reading record and levelled scheme reading book needs to come into school every day.
Please ensure:
- All children – Read every day and note this in their reading record. Please ensure you listen to your child read aloud a minimum of 3 times a week and sign their reading record.
- All children – Complete Times Table practise every day.
Reading, Spellings and Times tables
Reading
Your child will have two reading books that they use at school. One will be a levelled scheme reading book that will go home and be brought into school every day. The other will be a reading for pleasure book. Your child will be assessed on their book level by the class teacher and teaching assistants at regular intervals throughout the term and year.
Spelling
We have updated our approach to Spelling in KS2 and have created a scheme that uses phonics to teach the required skills and knowledge. All children receive discrete spelling lessons five times a week. Each week focuses on a specific phoneme and its associated graphemes. Very occasionally it will focus on a spelling pattern or rule.
You may have noticed Spellings are not part of our home learning expectations. However, we understand that many families like to complete additional work at home by practising the week’s spelling focus. Therefore, every week we will share a spelling overview on our Class Dojo page.
Times tables
Children will complete daily times table practice in school. We use a method called Precision Teaching, where children practise their target times table facts three times each day. They are assessed weekly, based on both the number of correct answers and the time taken to complete them. This allows us to monitor their progress and identify where further support may be needed.
We ask that children use Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) for regular practice at home, particularly Garage mode. Please leave Gig mode for us to use in school, as this forms part of our regular assessment programme.
The different TTRs game modes help to develop and assess your child’s speed, accuracy and fluency. The games adjust the level of difficulty based on their performance. It is important that children develop both accuracy and speed: for example, a child who answers every question correctly but takes too long to respond will not progress to the next level. Both elements are important for developing secure times table knowledge.
If your child is not yet confident with their times tables, please refer to the TTRs Parent Guides below, which explains how to adjust the settings (for example, by turning off the timer, while they build their confidence and fluency).
We highly recommend that children practise their times tables using an online resource several times a week. This is particularly important because, at the end of Year 4, children take the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC), which is a statutory assessment set by the government.
The MTC is completed on a Chromebook at school and consists of 25 times table questions. Children have 6 seconds to read, answer and enter each response before moving on to the next question. The check focuses on children’s fluency and recall of multiplication facts, so regular practice helps them to develop the speed and confidence needed to respond accurately within the time available.

Login information for all online resources has been stuck into the inside cover of your child’s reading record.
