By working together, school and families can support good attendance to ensure the best possible outcomes for every child.
Reporting Absence
If your child is unwell:
If your child is unwell, call the school office to the report absence. Please try to do this before 9am on each day of absence.
Absence requests:
Requests should be made for all known absences, including medical appointments and music exams.
If you feel that an absence is unavoidable for an exceptional circumstance, please complete an absence request form at least 2 weeks before the event.
The school will confirm receipt of the request and will inform you whether the request has been approved.
If we do not hear from you:
- If the child does not attend school and you have not informed us, we will call the child’s ‘priority 1’ contact.
- If we do not get through to you, we will leave a voice message and request you phone back.
- We will also try contacting the child’s ‘priority 2 and 3’ contacts.
- If we don’t hear back from you, we may need to contact the police or children’s social care in order to ensure your child is safe and well.
Attendance Matters
Regular attendance is essential to your child’s learning, progress and wellbeing. Every school day provides valuable opportunities for children to learn, develop friendships and take part in the wider life of our school.
Children are expected to attend school every day that the school is open (100% attendance).
We understand that children will occasionally be absent due to illness or exceptional circumstances. However, good attendance is a shared responsibility and we ask parents and carers to support their child by ensuring they attend school regularly and arrive on time.
Even small amounts of absence can add up over time, so we encourage families to make attendance a priority and to avoid unnecessary absences wherever possible.
What will happen if your child’s attendance starts to fall below 97%?
- If a child’s attendance falls below 97%, the school will contact parents/carers.
- If a child’s attendance continues to decline, further contact will be made and will outline the support that could be offered to improve attendance.
- Children who have 10 unauthorised absences (5 days) or more within 100 days will be referred to the Education Inclusion Service and a penalty notice will be submitted which could result in a fine.
- Children whose attendance falls below 85% will be referred to the Attendance and Welfare Support Service.
