Collective Worship

Collective Worship at St Julian's Church School

Collective Worship is a special part of our day where we come together as a community.

Collective Worship

At St Julian’s Church School, collective worship is an important part of our school day. It is a time when we come together, pause from the busyness of the day and create space to reflect, wonder and think about what really matters.

Our worship is rooted in the Christian faith and reflects our school vision and values, while providing an open and inclusive space for everyone.

What do we explore?

Collective worship provides opportunities for children to:

  • explore Christian stories, teachings and values
  • reflect on big questions about life and what it means to be human
  • consider their own beliefs, values and experiences
  • listen to and learn from different perspectives
  • develop a sense of connection with themselves, others and the wider world
  • be still, pray or simply take time for quiet reflection
  • celebrate the achievements, strengths and contributions of others
  • consider how their choices and actions can make a positive difference

We do not expect every child to respond to worship in the same way. Children may choose to pray, reflect, wonder, question, listen or simply enjoy a moment of stillness. What matters is that everyone has the opportunity to engage thoughtfully and respectfully.

Worship for Everyone

Although our worship is distinctly Christian, we want it to be accessible and meaningful to everyone. We explore Christian beliefs and traditions while also creating opportunities for children to encounter different beliefs, cultures, experiences and ways of understanding the world.

We recognise that spirituality is personal. There is no expectation that children will share the same beliefs or respond in the same way. Our worship provides a space where children can encounter ideas, ask questions and reflect on what they have heard and experienced.

Worship takes place in a variety of ways throughout the week. Sometimes we gather as a whole school; at other times, worship takes place within classes or smaller groups.

We also value our close links with St Julian’s Church, whose community plays an important role in our worship and celebrations.

Children are active participants in worship. They contribute through leading prayers, readings, music, drama, reflection and discussion, helping to shape worship as a shared experience rather than something simply delivered to them.

We use a range of creative and experiential approaches, including music, art, stories, drama, nature, silence, celebration and conversation.
