Spirituality
Spirituality is for everyone.
At St Julian’s Church School, we believe that spirituality is for everyone. It is not something that happens only during collective worship or RE lessons; it is woven through the life of our school and is something we seek to nurture every day.
We recognise that spirituality is personal and can be expressed in many different ways. For us, it is about developing a sense of connection, meaning, wonder and belonging, with ourselves, with others, with the world around us and, for some, with God.
We use the concept of Mirrors, Windows, Doors and Candles to support children to consciously explore spirituality.
Spiritual development happens throughout everyday school life: in the wonder of a scientific discovery, the beauty of music or art, time spent in nature, a meaningful conversation, an act of kindness, a moment of stillness or simply noticing something that makes us stop and think.
Our Christian foundation provides an important lens through which we explore spirituality, while respecting and valuing the different beliefs, experiences and perspectives within our school community. We do not expect everyone to think, feel or believe in the same way. Instead, we encourage children to wonder, question, reflect and respond.
Ultimately, we want children to develop a growing understanding of who they are, what they value and how they connect with others and the world around them. We want them to remain curious, open-hearted and willing to wonder.
